Even though, the spacecraft crashed on the moon in April of 2019, it is believed that the lunar library has survived the crush and international search is ongoing. Even though, not all the details were revealed at the beginning, the spacecraft contained a 30 million page archive of human knowledge embedded into a metal disc with the size of a DVD. The spacecraft was launched on February 22 of this year. ![]() In an attempt to create a lunar library, Israel has launched a spacecraft called "Beresheet" (Genesis) which had a mysterious cargo. Building a doomsday library and archive on the moon will help in many ways and one of them would be by preserving the collective knowledge, so that our distant descendents will never lose humanity's collective knowledge. ![]() The article outlines the importance of the archive by saying "Known as the Arctic World Archive, the vault will work as a library of sorts, a storage option for governments and private individuals to keep their data safe", thus making it accessible to future generations and helping them recover humanity's knowledge and information. The archive has been built with the sole purpose of being a backup for gene banks around the world, as well as preserving the valuable genetic materials from natural disasters, equipment impairment, war, and other worldly problems. On earth we have a seed vault, and now a doomsday library which collects samples of all the necessary crop seeds, as well as now a digital archive of the world's data which is located in Svalbard, a remote island off the coast of Norway, which is about 620 miles, or 1000 kilometers from the North Pole.
